Cocopeat, also known as coir pith, is a natural byproduct derived from coconut husks, making it an abundant and renewable resource. At AGS Coir, we take pride in our role as stewards of sustainability, employing innovative techniques to extract cocopeat while minimizing our environmental footprint. In this blog post, we'll take you behind the scenes of our cocopeat extraction process and shed light on the eco-friendly practices that set AGS Coir apart in the industry.
The Cocopeat Extraction Process:
Coconut Harvesting
Our journey begins with the careful selection and harvesting of mature coconut husks from coconut plantations across India. These husks undergo thorough cleaning to remove impurities and prepare them for the extraction process.
Coconut Husk Extraction
Coco coir, the cornerstone of our products, originates from the sturdy husk of coconuts. After the coconut crop reaches maturity, we carefully dehusk it. The husks undergo a soaking process to soften them, setting the stage for coco peat and coir pith production. Quality is meticulously monitored throughout the harvesting and processing stages to ensure superior coco coir products.
Fiber Separation
Using equipment called a Coir Fiber Buster, we separate the coir pith and coco fiber from the coconut husk. Once obtained, the coco fiber and coir pith are dried and shaped into bricks, discs, coir pots, or bagged as loose mulch. Coir fiber finds applications in various products such as floor mats, brushes, and mattresses, while coco peat serves as an exceptional soil conditioner and soil-less medium for agro-horticultural purposes.
Washing and Quality Control
To achieve the desired low conductivity required for our coco coir products, the coir pith undergoes thorough washing with fresh water. It is then neutralized to achieve the appropriate Electrical Conductivity (EC) level and subjected to a meticulous drying process. Our products undergo rigorous testing for moisture content, EC level, and pH to ensure they meet our strict quality standards at every stage of manufacturing.
Drying and Cleaning
The wet coir pith is dried under controlled conditions, either in the sun on cement yards. This drying process eliminates any weed, pathogens, or foreign particles from the coir pith, ensuring its purity. After drying, the material undergoes a thorough cleaning process to remove any remaining impurities, such as sand, weed, mud, or stones.
Pressing and Packaging
We carefully blend the coir pith, fibers, and chips to create the ideal composition according to customer requirements. The mixture is then compressed into various formats, including 5 kg blocks, 650 gm briquettes, bricks, grow bags, or husk chips. These compressed blocks undergo stringent quality control checks for moisture content and impurities before being packed according to client specifications.
Quality Assurance
Each product is meticulously inspected throughout the manufacturing process to ensure it meets our exacting standards. Whether packed in pallets or floor loaded, our coco peat blocks are packaged with precision to meet the specific requirements of our clients.
